Saint Mary’s holds a slim halftime lead

The Gaels are doing it without much help from their biggest star.

Omar Samhan, the leading scorer and rebounded in the league, has not scored in xx minutes of action. Samhan is 0-for-5 from the field and has just three rebounds. He does have two assists.

Ben Allen knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and has 10 points at the break.

Matt Bouldin made all seven of his free throws and leads Gonzaga with 12 points.

Both teams are struggling from the field. Saint Mary’s is shooting just 37.5 percent, but has made 4 of 10 from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs are hitting at a 36.4 percent clip from the field.

Saint Mary’s starting forward Clint Steindl has three fouls.

Quick Start

Saint Mary’s scored the first seven points of the game and had the throngs of Gonzaga fans inside the Orleans quite nervous.

Steven Gray finally got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard at the 15:48 mark.

The Gaels maintained the lead until Elias Harris hit a 3-pointer with 2:40 to play to tie the game at 27-27..

Mickey McConnell was largely responsible for the lead, scoring 10 of the first 12 points for Saint Mary’s.

Ugly stat

Will Foster has had an awful game at the free-throw line on Sunday and it continued on Monday.

The 7-foot-5 senior center airballed both of his attempts in the semifinal.

He touched the rim in the first half tonight, but bricked both tries badly./

It takes just a quick glance at the stats to realize it’s no aberration.

Foster shot 18.2 percent from the line this season, making just 4 of 22 attempts.

Injury report

Gonzaga’s Manny Arop sustained a broken left foot and will not play for the rest of the season.

He is scheduled to have surgery in Spokane on Wednesday.

The freshman, who averages 3.5 points and four rebounds per game, had four points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes of action in the semifinal yesterday.
