Sandoval taps Reno architect, state employee for two posts

CARSON CITY — Gov.-elect Brian Sandoval announced Monday he has hired Reno architect Stacey Crowley as the director of the state Office of Energy and retained longtime state employee Leo Drozdoff as director of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Sandoval, who will take office on Jan. 3, has kept about half of the directors who worked under outgoing Gov. Jim Gibbons. However, he still has not named replacements for several key departments, including the Corrections Department whose director, Howard Skolnik, announced his retirement effective Dec. 31.

Crowley is the owner of Crowley Consulting in Reno. She has a master’s degree in architecture from the University of New Mexico and was a panel member and presenter at the Governor’s High Performance Building Summit in 2006.

She also is a frequent speaker on green energy and has been recognized for her work on energy efficiency and smart growth.

Her husband, Tim Crowley, is the president of the Nevada Mining Association.

Drozdoff is acting director of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and previously was the administrator of the Division of Environmental Protection. He also has been the bureau chief of Mining Regulation and Reclamation and deputy administrator for the Environmental Protection Division’s water programs.

“Stacey is a recognized leader in green development and her background in architecture and community development will bring a fresh perspective to this important job.,” Sandoval said in a statement. “Energy policy will be key to my efforts to diversify Nevada’s economy and Stacey’s private sector and renewable energy experience will help set a new standard of excellence in the field.”

Drozdoff’s background in natural resource issues will make him a “strong advocate for his department and our fellow Nevadans,” Sandoval added.
