Settling in time for Marie Osmond

Looks as if Marie Osmond and husband Steve Craig are settling down in Las Vegas for a while.

Osmond, who has been headlining at the Flamingo with brother Donny since 2008, is moving out of her rental home in McDonald Highlands in Henderson after buying a home in the same area.

Priced at $1.8 million when it was built in 2007 but never inhabited, the price on the house dropped to $1.2 million before Marie Osmond paid $885,000. The two story, 5,224-square-foot residence has four bedrooms, 5½ bathrooms and a garage.

In the fall, Donny Osmond indicated in an interview that the sibling act, one of the top performing shows in Las Vegas, might be scaled down after 2012 so the two could pursue other opportunities.

Earlier this year, it was announced that production was about to start on “Marie!” – her afternoon talk/lifestyle show premiering in the fall on the Hallmark Channel.

Marie Osmond and Craig, a former BYU star and NBA player, celebrate the first anniversary of their second marriage May 4. They were married in Las Vegas. They were first wed in 1982.

OPPORTUNITY VILLAGE WINS

It looked like Opportunity Village lost its big opportunity when Donald Trump fired Penn Jillette from “Celebrity Apprentice” on Sunday.

Had Jillette gone on to win season 12, Opportunity Village, a nonprofit serving people with intellectual disabilities, would have received $250,000.

But the Caesars Foundation had other plans.

Jillette, a longtime headliner at the Rio with comedy partner Teller, was informed by telephone that Caesars Palace was writing a $250,000 check for Opportunity Village.

Jillette made the announcement during his appearance Monday on “The Wendy Willams Show.”

“I had a blast on the show, and a lot of people learned about what a great organization Opportunity Village is. I have the best bosses in the world – thanks Rio!”

On the show, he finished seventh out of 18 and won Opportunity Village $50,000.

With the Caesars Foundation gift, two new employee transit vehicles will be purchased, aiding the more than 1,700 clients in Southern Nevada.

Ceasars Entertainment and Caesars Foundation have gifted more than $1.5 million to Opportunity Village since 2004.

Scene and heard

Gladys Knight’s run on “Dancing With the Stars” ended Tuesday. Knight, a longtime Las Vegas resident, and professional dance partner Tristan MacManus were eliminated after a dance-off and their eighth-place finish in the latest competition. “Gladys is probably one of the most inspirational people I’ve met,” MacManus said. “As a teacher, that’s unbelievable. I’ll probably miss Gladys as much as I miss Ireland when I’m here, and I really, really miss Ireland,” MacManus said.

“It now appears that as many as a dozen members of the Secret Service were involved in that Colombian prostitution scandal. Now six of the agents have been reassigned. The other six are now party planners for the GSA.” – Jay Leno
