Son of Oklahoma City bomber appears in court

The son of Oklahoma City bomber Terry Nichols appeared in Las Vegas Justice Court this morning to answer charges that he stole a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle.

Joshua Nichols, 26, told Justice of the Peace Abbi Silver that he couldn’t afford an attorney and was assigned a Clark County Public Defender.

He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Dec. 1. Joshua Nichols has several prior felony convictions for assault, theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.

His mother, Lana Padilla, said Joshua Nichols has a drug problem.

"He needs help," she said.

She said, however, that she’s received an outpouring of support from the community.

"There’s a lot of people who care about Josh," she said. Terry Nichols is serving a life sentence in prison for the 1995 bombing at the Alfred P. Murray Federal Building in Oklahoma City that killed 168 people.
