Sparks team going to D.C. contest

A team of students from Reed High School in Sparks will represent Nevada in a national competition based on their knowledge of American rights and responsibilities.

The “We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution” competition, sponsored by the Center for Civic Education, is an annual competition for American high school students.

The competition, to be held in April in Washington, D.C., is styled as a congressional hearing.

Each team is divided up into six units, each consisting of three to five students. Each unit focuses on a particular area of constitutional interest: from the philosophical underpinnings to modern day implications.

The team from Reed beat out four other teams in Saturday’s competition at the Lloyd George U.S. Courthouse.
