Sparks woman in custody on suspicion of killing mother

According to court documents, a Sparks woman said anger toward her mother prompted her to smash her head with a baseball bat, slash her throat with a knife and then stab her in the stomach.

Police said that after smoking a cigarette, 48-year-old Catherine Eisley called 911 on Wednesday night and said she killed her 70-year-old mother, Cherry Clasen.

Eisley was booked into the Washoe County jail on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail.

A probable cause declaration, released Friday in Sparks Justice Court and obtained by the Reno Gazette-Journal, said Eisley claimed her mother caused her to suffer post-traumatic stress because of past childhood abuse.

The document said Eisley was prescribed psychotropic medication, and said “she knew what she did was wrong and illegal.”
