Sullivan, Gibson, Lee get voter nod

Voters selected candidates for newly created justice of the peace positions in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson.

Diana L. Sullivan defeated opponent Steve Smith for Las Vegas justice of the peace Department 12, with 65 percent of the vote to Smith’s 35 percent.

Family Court hearing master David Gibson Sr. won with a comfortable 10-point lead over Sandy Allred-DiGiacomo — 55 percent to 45 percent — for Department 3 in Henderson.

In the race for Department 3 justice of the peace in North Las Vegas, Chris Lee defeated opponent Jonathan E. MacArthur 54 percent to 46 percent.

Justices of the peace are responsible for setting bail and handling preliminary hearings and initial arraignments for felony cases before the cases proceed to District Court. Justices of the peace also oversee misdemeanor and small-claims civil cases to their completion.

The six-year judgeships are nonpartisan offices.
