United Way promotes volunteerism

United Way collaborates with volunteers, stakeholders and community leaders to uncover key strategies designed to develop community-based solutions to the region’s most pressing health and human service issues. Beyond quick fixes, these strategies are delivering long-term solutions, aligned with benchmarks and achievement standards, to change community conditions.

“We rely heavily on the generosity of this community’s business leaders and citizens to give, advocate or volunteer to help advance the common good,” said United Way’s President and CEO Dan Goulet.

For those who wish to volunteer their time as a way to give back to the community, United Way offers its volunteer center which connects individuals, families and corporate community groups together for meaningful local volunteer opportunities.

“Our mission is to promote volunteerism and get people involved in their communities,” said Robin Kelley, director of the Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada. “We partner with most of the charitable organizations in town and find out what type of help they need. Then we match our volunteers’ interests with the organization’s need, and even track the service experience and follow up with the volunteer to promote further engagement.”

Volunteer activities range from motivating children to discover and learn, to serving hot meals to low-income families. The Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada offers activities that serve to build capacity within nonprofit, faith-based, and public organizations, and develops activities suited for youth, busy working adults and seniors.
