LETTER: North Las Vegas police probe falls flat

To the editor:

It would appear that North Las Vegas police detectives need to hire a Hollywood crime show writer as a consultant to show them how to conduct a murder investigation (“Private investigator sought video that cleared teenager,” Sept. 25 Review-Journal). Their work on the Patrick Harper case is a perfect example of how to railroad someone without even checking out an alibi.

Since the witness in the car could not identify Mr. Harper from a photo or a face-to-face meeting, how did Mr. Harper get arrested and put in jail for 13 days? Most people assume that the police would check a person’s alibi to see if it was viable. I guess the North Las Vegas Police Department doesn’t believe in a suspect’s presumption of innocence until proved guilty.

If detectives aren’t called on the carpet for this, then justice is not a priority in North Las Vegas. Just grab someone off the street and call it a done deal.
