Mood-altering medications and mass shootings

While Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo continues to work to discover a motive for Stephen Paddock’s tragic shooting spree in Las Vegas, I and others believe the reason is quite obvious. Paddock was another individual prescribed psychiatric drugs, in his case, an anti-anxiety one, diazepam.

This is the same drug prescribed for John Hinckley Jr. before his attempt to assassinate President Ronald Reagan. Psychiatric drugs have been discovered, either in the systems or being taken, by almost every individual in all the high-profile shooting cases across the country.

Perhaps it is time to ignore any pressure from the pharmaceutical industry and to embark on a national investigation into this type of drug. This path may make our society safer than more gun legislation. It also may be discovered that psychiatric drugs represent a more dangerous element in our society than guns. Especially when prescribed to our fellow citizens.
