Who cares about taxpayer money?

Let me get this straight. A female employee in the purchasing department at the Las Vegas Valley Water District purchased $4.5 million dollars worth of ink cartridges using public funds, then shipped them to a company in New Jersey for resale and a cut of the profits. This went on for several years before someone noticed.

This employee is then put on administrative leave while being processed for termination, but eventually resigns last December. The FBI is now involved.

Now you would think someone like this would be run out of town. But surprise, surprise, she now works at UNLV in the purchasing department. Are you kidding me? I can almost hear the scurrying of feet in the UNLV Human Resources Department running to cover their collective rears on this one.

It seems UNLV and the water district are run by incompetent bureaucrats who don’t care about wasting taxpayer money. What a disgrace. And you wonder why Donald Trump is doing so well.

Rights denied

How ironic is it that the people who want to exercise their constitutional rights of freedom of speech and to assemble are the same people who want to deny those same rights to supporters of presidential candidate Donald Trump?

Noise levels

An airport should serve the community. In Las Vegas the citizens have become subservient to the airport. For those of us on the east side of the city, the airport noise created by the jets flying overhead is becoming unbearable.

The number of daily departures is now more than 500 and growing — and that is not counting the cargo jets. Lately the jets have been departing to the north and making right-hand turns to travel east going over very densely populated residential areas. As the jets take off — one after another after another — the extreme noise pollution becomes nonstop and lasts well past midnight. This is destroying the quality of life for tens of thousands of Las Vegans.

I recently called and asked one of the airport planners why the planes were departing to the north now that the repairs and maintenance of the east/west runway are finished. He said that airport officials have no say as to which direction the flights depart, that decision is made by the FAA. The FAA has the power to regulate the operation of an airport.

It seems the airport manager, county commissioners and the citizens of Las Vegas can do nothing about the growing airport noise problem. We are at the mercy of a federal agency, the FAA.

Gun crime?

Government statistics will attribute the recent murder of eight extended family members in Ohio to gun violence, and the authorities found hundreds of marijuana plants at the scene of the crime. Go figure.
