51s give out yearly awards
The 51s announced their award winners Friday, honoring four players, including two of the Mets’ top prospects.
Top prospect Amed Rosario won the Mayor’s Trophy as voted on by the fans after hitting .328 with seven home runs and 58 RBIs in 94 games for Las Vegas before being called up by the Mets. Rosario was named the Pacific Coast League’s Rookie of the Year on Aug. 30. He was also a PCL All-Star and named to the All-PCL team.
First baseman Dominic Smith, the Mets’ No. 2 prospect, was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. In 114 games, he hit .330 with 151 hits, 34 doubles, 16 home runs and 76 RBIs.
Reliever Ben Rowen was named the team’s Most Valuable Pitcher. As of Sept. 1, he is tied for first in the PCL in appearances with 53. Rowen is 3-3 with a 4.48 ERA in 53 games this season and has a 2.42 ERA after the All-Star break.
The coaching staff chose both the Most Valuable Player and Pitcher while the front office honored outfielder Jayce Boyd with the team’s Community Service Award.
