Horse Racing, Hollywood Park, June 17
Today at Hollywood Park
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
1 Valkyrie Missile – Has won two razor sharp races in a row for Jerry Hollendorfer; claimed by Blake Heap, maybe one more?
2 Siempre Mio – Watch for the two tallest owners in horse racing, Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol; is spotted to win, and get claimed.
Long Shot – 3 Gold Medallion
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 My Little Morgan – Claimed by Jack Carava and spotted nicely to win; off slow in last but was flying at the end.
7 Lisa Lulu – She won two races very nicely before running a cropper in last; which mare will we see run today.
Long Shot – 4 Roman Charity
Race 3 – 7 furlongs, Purse $52,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
3 The Black – Just missed in last when given way too much to do in the lane; nearly made up 5-lengths during the stretch call.
4 Real Conundrum – If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I love horses cutting back from 2-turns to an elongated sprint.
Long Shot – 1 Planet Sunshine
Race 4 – 5 furlongs (turf), Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
5 Upbeat Mood – Interesting private purchase out of a debut race at Calder; Calder babies have done well over the years in SoCal.
2 Silent Ride – You’ll have a big edge over me in seeing the action on the FTS; this one just looks like she can run.
Long Shot – 6 Jerry’shoneycarol
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $35,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Via Verde – Speedball was claimed by Mike Mitchell, typically a good sign; simple tactics of showing more speed today.
1 Peacenik – Has won two races in a row like a bat out of you know what; key is if he’ll handle the class rise up to $32K.
Long Shot – 5 Stoneside
Race 6 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
9 Lamm – Incredible difficult race in the midst of the pick 6 and late pick 4; this one has been very consistent in turf routes.
5 Cayambe – Excuse for last was return off a 9-month hiatus; he is better than that, but at 9-YO is practically claim proof.
Long Shot – 7 Tribal Nation
Race 7 – 6 furlongs, $70,000 Desert Stormer, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Teddy’s Promise – Has found a new, productive style of running from off the pace; she may be this good to face graded winners.
6 Turbulent Descent – Logical chalk got a well needed vacation after two awful races in a row; working well at a very short price.
Long Shot – 1 Switch
Race 8 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $52,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
2 Ransom Canyon – There is a ton of speed in this field; like the idea of this dead late closer passing tired horses in the lane.
1 Buffalo Billy – Good tactical speed and a ground saving journey; Garrett Gomez wants to reclaim his spot at the top.
Long Shot – 7 Antidote
Race 9 – 6 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds and up
8 Tummel – There is nothing in this race that looks like they can run; big class drop and OK speed figures point to something obvious.
1 Additional Demands – Fast closing third after stumbling early in his debut; suspect a clean break will only help his cause.
Long Shot – 9 Magic Castle
Best Bet – 3 The Black (race 3)
Betfair Hollywood Park Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/7/$50.00; Long Shots, 9/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Betfair Hollywood Park Totals – 539/139/$910.20; Long Shots, 272/40/$390.80; Best Bets, 29/9/$36.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #3 Johannesbourbon (5/2) in race 9 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Lockout won at Churchill Downs paying $4.20 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.20 to show. Stats – 93/62/$520.30; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
