7 Beach Premier – Outran her 27/1 odds in career debut when second; fits well especially with one step of improvement.
6 Birthday Song – Showed good early speed and fought gamely to deep stretch; another who can definitely improve a step.
Long Shot – 2 Dana’s Delight
Race 2 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $75,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
7 Turnover – Bob Baffert has had an incredibly quiet Del Mar; if he’s waiting for dirt, we’ll see an explosion at Santa Anita.
1 Prontezzo – This has been some meet for the Philip D’Amato barn; everything runs well, or at least earns a paycheck.
Long Shot – 6 He’s On His Toes
Race 3 – 1 mile, $90,000 Harry F. Brubaker, 3-year-olds and up
5 Big Bane Theory – Exits the grade 2 Citation for this; has been away 9 monhts but has plenty of class for this return.
1 Blue Tone – Big win last time and continues an exceptional synthetic surface resume; can save all the ground under Kent Desormeaux.
Long Shot – 6 Safety Belt
Race 4 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 6 feet), Purse $77,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds
1 I’ll Wrap It Up – Showed a lot of improvement in last first time with blinkers on; sometimes that is all it takes to move forward a lot.
7 Footstepsinbronze – Did everything but win last time in a strong second; like that Rafael Bejarano remains loyal to the cause.
Long Shot – 2 Rocked Twice
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $77,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Rovenna – Beaten favorite tries right back at this friendly level; suspect will be favored or second choice again with these.
9 Lucky Student – Been away 10 months but showed good ability back when; has been working steadily for return and could surprise.
Long Shot – 1 Lemon de Oro
Race 6 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $75,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
6 Bennett Jean – Leap of faith that the hot Ted West barn will continue its winning ways; you can tell by the tote board action.
8 Conquest Archangel – Mark Casse barn has a lot of seconds, but not many wins; his horses fit but he has had bad racing luck.
Long Shot – 1 Call to Congrats
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 6 feet), Purse $58,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Tigah – Gets major class relief from the grade 2 Del Mar Mile for this; finally facing a field he could overpower.
5 Press Baron – Richard Baltas has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; Rafael Bejarano is starting to pull away in the jockey standings.
Long Shot – 1 Mambo Man
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $77,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Koukla – Returns from an 8-month hiatus; surprised that Corey Nakatani is riding for Rafael Bejarano on this filly.
2 Sweet Marini – Speedball will have simple tactics of go as fast and as far as she can; Bob Baffert using bugboy Drayden Van Dyke.
Long Shot – 1 Tappingintherain
Race 9 – 7 furlongs, $300,000 Del Mar Debutante, Fillies, 2-year-olds
5 Sunset Glow – Amazing what she has done literally all over the world; she may not want to go far, but she’ll go very fast.
1 Seduire – Beat a much softer group at Santa Rosa; still it was a good confidence builder as she faces grade 1 foes tonight.
Long Shot – 8 Conquest Eclipse
Race 10 – 1 mile, Purse $75,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
11 One Lucky Dane – Will have to draw in from the also eligible list; Rafael Bejarano for Bob Baffert, overdue to win some races.
6 Selection – Had an eventful debut, which could serve as a good education; Drayden Van Dyke for his mentor Tom Proctor.
Long Shot – 12 Daddy D T
Race 11 – 1 mile, Purse $24,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
12 Sidepocket Champ – Will need to draw in from the also eligible list; Elvis Trujillo getting an important shot in the Philip D’Amato barn.
11 Goyan – Another who must draw in from the also eligible list; Ron Ellis has had a strong meet and is using Tyler Baze more and more.
