TODAY AT SANTA ANITA

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $22,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up

6 Joe Carl – Dead late closer has a strong dirt resume; some of his better races have come at Santa Anita too.

4 Coluda – Logical chalk was claimed in last by Mike Mitchell; will be happy to see his future son in law Julien Leparoux this winter.

Long Shot – 5 Power Series

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

2 Caminetto – Bob Baffert is absolutely scorching this meet; we’ll see if that trend contines the first weekend in November.

4 Courtside – Speedball hasn’t run for a price tag in quite some time; will play catch me if you can.

Long Shot – 5 Guidopanzini

Race 3 – 1 mile, Purse $29,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 2-year-olds

1 Londinium – Rail post is good with a short run to the first turn; first 2-turn race of his brief career.

6 Harlington Night – Ran evenly in debut facing tougher at Del Mar; drops in class which can only help the cause.

Long Shot – 4 Lico

Race 4 – 1 mile, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up

5 Just Tripping – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; suspect his best stride will come late.

7 Pork Chop – Has picked up the pace in finally finding his comfort level; tactical speed to sit a good trip.

Long Shot – 9 Ride Along

Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $47,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

6 Besame Suances – His race two back is fast enough to upset these; closer style should suit down the hillside.

5 Big Bane Theory – Tepid chalk was no secret when favored in his career debut; like the cut back in distance tonight.

Long Shot – 1 In a Wine Tizzy

Race 6 – 1 mile, Purse $18,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Bonita Star – Mike Mitchell has had a slow period lately; that’s why this class dropper is meant to do only one thing.

6 Living Our Dream – Last time he ran for this price tag, she won; need not be much to compete in this crew.

Long Shot – 9 My Friend Gail

Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $50,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

8 Ricspretentiousgal – Had a string of 4 straight seconds broken, by a fourth place finish; class relief from a stakes for this.

11 – Vionnet – Hate the parking lot post, but let Garrett Gomez worry about the trip; exits two tougher races for this.

Long Shot – 6 Cosset

Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

10 Lanida – Just missed last time in this same condition; double tough if she improves just one step.

3 Lady Pecan – Takes a steep class drop making her the one to beat; second start off a 8-month hiatus.

Long Shot – 4 Woebegon

Best Bet – 3 Bonita Star (race 6)

Santa Anita Monday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/3/$15.40; Long Shots, 10/1/$9.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Totals – 147/29/$195.00; Long Shots, 75/13/$126.00; Best Bets, 8/2/$6.40

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #10 Shrill (7/2) in race 7 at Keeneland. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Monday, Rigby ran third at Belmont Park paying $2.10 to show. Stats – 149/106/$928.60; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
