TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 mile, Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds

2 Yes It’s Snowing – Suspect Bill Spawr has found the right class level for him; grinder will fight hard in the lane.

6 Tiz Dynamic – Sharp claim by Gary Stute; has won 3-of-4 starts since joining the new barn, all times ridden by Alex Bisono.

Long Shot – 4 Won Won Oh Five

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

6 Prime Number – Sliding down one more class level in search of victory; also cutting back in distance, should finish well.

3 Congregationalist – His race two back is fast enough to beat these; this is a slow field, won’t take much to graduate.

Long Shot – 5 Just Because

Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds

6 Charm Catcher – Ran like a green horse last time in debut; was slow into stride early, then came flying late.

10 Miss Robyn – Tepid chalk ran a good second in debut for a $75K price tag; protected today in MSW company.

Long Shot – 9 What a Spot

Race 4 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

5 Twirlybird – Claimed by Jack Carava and dropped one notch in class; suspect he wants the purse and take his chances.

10 Eula B. – Taking a huge class drop for the easiest assignment of her career; may be a now or never moment.

Long Shot – 6 Sugar Spice

Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $25,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

6 Miss Communication – Julien Leparoux looks a bit lost out there right now; the SoCal riding style is a lot different.

7 Thermal Nermal – Like shippers from Florida and Kentucky coming to SoCal; not much respect with a 6/1 morning line.

Long Shot – 5 Valeria

Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

4 Quizzical – Like her win last time with a patient ride; with 4 starters returning off layoffs, her recent action is a positive.

3 Ismene – Logical chalk is unbeaten in 3 starts; she hasn’t been seen in 14-months, so she might be a tad rusty.

Long Shot -1 Shumoos

Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

11 Candy Trophy – She figures to draw in from the also eligibles; has proven herself in 5 grass starts, 3 wins.

5 Miss Well Molded – Gritty turf grinder has a nose for the finish line; she’ll rate kindly and make one run.

Long Shot – 4 Mary Fildes

Race 8 – 7 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

8 Nekomata – Taking a huge class drop to face a motley crew; adding blinkers on, she can wake up for Joe Talamo.

11 Sharp Bella – Like the parking lot post in this elongated sprint; Julien Leparoux needs to adjust his style to SoCal.

Long Shot – 10 Nonna Reese

Best Bet – 5 Twirlybird (race 4)

Santa Anita Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/4/$24.80; Long Shots, 7/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.40
