Tony Harrison wins junior middleweight fight with second-round TKO at MGM Grand

Tony Harrison made short work of Antwone Smith, stopping the junior middleweight 19 seconds into the second round and remaining undefeated with a technical knockout in Friday’s main event at the MGM Grand Ballroom.

Harrison (20-0) knocked down Smith (23-6-1) twice in the first round, the second coming right before the bell. Referee Robert Byrd allowed Smith to continue, but after Harrison hit Smith with two rights that staggered him, Byrd stopped the fight.

In the co-feature, middleweight Ievgen Khytrov dominated Jorge Melendez and scored an eighth-round TKO to improve to 8-0. Khytrov, who never had been beyond five rounds in his brief professional career, had little trouble with Melendez (28-5-1), and a big body shot in the eighth round dropped Melendez. The fight was stopped at 42 seconds.
