Former TV sports columnist Taaffe dies at 70

William “Bill” Taaffe Jr., an award-winning columnist who wrote about sports on TV, died Dec. 12 at his Henderson home. His “Remote Control” column appeared in the Las Vegas Review-Journal in 2006 and 2007.

He was 70.

Taaffe, who was born in Queens, N.Y., developed one of the first TV sports columns when he wrote for Sports Illustrated. He also worked for the New York Times, Washington Star and Washington Post and wrote and edited books.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Will; and a sister, Joan Engel.

A celebration on his life will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Central Christian Church, 1001 New Beginnings Drive, Henderson.
