Future Las Vegas 51s infielder Dilson Herrera stars in World Classic qualifier

Second baseman Dilson Herrera went 0-for-2 with three walks, a run scored and an RBI in Colombia’s 9-2 victory over Spain on Thursday in the World Baseball Classic qualifier.

Herrera, who was reassigned to minor league camp earlier this week, played 81 games with the Las Vegas 51s last year and will likely begin the season as their everyday second baseman.

Colombia is the favorite in qualifier 3, which also includes Panama, France and Spain and is being held in Panama City, Panama.

Herrera and his team will play again Friday night.

Herrera also participated in the 2013 qualifier as an 18-year-old, but Colombia fell short of qualifying for the WBC.
