HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $51,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
Brilliant Cut – You bet against Frankel at your own risk; one of the few Frankel trainees that shows no interest in rating tactics.
Fete – If a speed duel erupts, that greatly increases the chances of this dead late closer; good horse for Solis to take back early.
Long Shot – Hunter Street
Race 2 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Rivergrade Boy – Talk about a dart throw race, watch the tote board for any clues; Dominguez has been cold, but is capable, with babies.
Red Hot Flame – Tepid chalk from Harrington who usually wins with Swiss Yodeler get; working OK, doesn’t have the best hustle rider.
Long Shot – Follows None
Race 3 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $58,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Shermeen – Speedy sort gets some class relief exiting a couple of turf stakes races; if the Mig leaves, the rail is out 20 feet.
Nakaba – Been a bit dull after an outstanding winning debut in the U.S.; this is a soft group, which would welcome a rebound effort.
Long Shot- Dona Amelia
Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
California Classic – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; showed a ton of speed, can pop in front of these.
Love My Rose – Decent effort last time and a repeat run puts her into the number; been showing slow, but steady, improvement.
Long Shot – Schaghticoke Hill
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Miss Silver Image – She owns something that is always dangerous, high early speed; she may pop the gate and never look back again.
Callmeluckylucy – Ran miserably last time, but you need to be a forgiving handicapper to find value; her race two back is competitive.
Long Shot – Divine Mark
Race 6 – 7 furlongs, Purse $29,000, Maiden claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds and up
Kailee Rush – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; Baffert adding blinkers on to this cull, stalking trip.
Headed for Home – Ran a winning race for this level last time out and only must repeat to have a chance; parking lot post is OK.
Long Shot – Storms of Life
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $51,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Gotta Have Her – Interesting race with mostly grass horses running on Cushion track; she gets class relief exiting a pair of stakes.
Sweet Way – Dead late closer returning off a 9-month hiatus; she may not be wound tight for this, but is worth keeping your eyes on.
Long Shot – Lake Marina
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Fifth Base – I sound like a broken record pointing out horses dropping from MSW to claiming; it’s an enormous class relief for them.
Oldcourt – Logical chalk is not a horse to bet the mortgage on; she too is dropping in class, but figures to be way overbet.
Long Shot – Blue Kitty
Best Bet – California Classic (race 4)
Hollywood Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/3/$34.40; Long Shots, 8/1/$6.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Totals – 132/31/$225.00; Long Shots, 64/5/$107.00; Best Bets, 8/2/$10.00
