HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time Noon

Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Ancient Tale – She has the best win early pedigree in the field; I know her works aren’t great, but this is a good barn.

Awesome Feat – Logical chalk figures to get way overbet, especially considering the low Mandella first time win percentage.

Long Shot – Eagle Island

Race 2 – 5 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Flying Home – The rail is OK considering the short run to the turn; this is a betting barn and second time out can be a go.

Teacher’s Rule – I’m taken by the way these Tribal Rule babies run; she may not want to go far, but usually they go fast.

Long Shot – Alpine Yodel

Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $49,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Jitterbug Ball – Regressed badly in a turf sprint try last time; he appears faster and better on dirt, Cushion track here.

Only in Reno – Baffert horse has been away nearly 30-months, your move; hard to love a 5-YO with only two lifetime starts.

Long Shot – Jealous Profit

Race 4 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $51,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Heated Rebel – Making his third start off a 9-month hiatus, could be his best; tactical speed to sit a decent outside trip.

Men Only – Tepid chalk does not possess winning ways in a wide open route race; he is better than showed last time out.

Long Shot – Really Indian

Race 5 – 1 1/8th miles (turf), $175,000 Honeymoon Breeders’ Cup Handicap, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Valbenny – Really showed her A-game last time in an impressive Senorita stakes score; powerful closer is up Solis’ alley.

Ainamaa – She gets tested for class today after visually impressive U.S. races; she did show some greeness last time out.

Long Shot – Super Freaky

Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Devine by Design – Sharp maiden win under a well time Talamo ride, what a shock; figures to stalk and save her best for last.

Belle Lu – Was bothered early and that left her too much to do late; Espinoza for the Mig who is riding at Belmont today.

Long Shot -Sportie’s Squeeze

Race 7 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds and up

Clan Chief – Ran miserably while facing much tougher last time out; like that hot bugboy Talamo takes the call, has a shot.

Fantasmin – Tepid chalk was claimed by Hess off a razor sharp victory; is bumped up one class level, must maintain sharpness.

Long Shot – John Hennessy

Race 8 – 1 mile, $75,000 Redondo Beach, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Cantabria – She was scratched from a graded stakes for this much softer spot; Frankel doesn’t like being a long shot, ever.

Dancing Edie – Logical chalk has controlling speed from a dangerous post; note that the turf rail is in it’s normal spot.

Long Shot – Arm Candy

Race 9 – 7 1/2 furlongs, $100,000 Ack Ack Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

El Roblar – Lost a brutal head bob last time in the turf Arcadia; he turns back in distance, has the parking lot post too.

Publication – This 8-YO continues to run like a stakes horse despite his advanced years; will sit in arrears for one run.

Long Shot – Bonfante

Race 10 – 1 1/4 miles (turf), $300,000 Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Lava Man – He should know by now not to ship to Dubai, for any sort of stakes; good return spot albeit on the grassy knoll.

Red Fort – Underrated turf horse has knocked heads with many of the good ones in the division; will only need a clean trip.

Long Shot – Obrigado

Race 11 – 7 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Silvers Surprise – Pleasantly surprised with the way Delgadillo rides these long shots; he rides hard, puts them into the race.

Marqz Melody – Tepid chalk found her best stride too late last time; she’s exiting two bullet works, appears ready to fire.

Long Shot – Summer in Dixie

Best Bet – Valbenny (race 5)

Hollywood Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/2/$10.20; Long Shots, 8/2/$17.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Hollywood Totals – 566/132/$841.60; Long Shots, 276/38/$410.40; Best Bets, 33/14/$55.40
