TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $20,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Lucy Got Lucky – Bill Morey claims from Julio Canani, possibly a wash; is spotted perfectly to win right back.
My Aunt Fanny – Third start off a 2-month hiatus; dead late closer should see tired hombres to pass late.
Long Shot – Acute Velocity
Race 2 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $41,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Top Student – I picked 3 FTS among my top choices; the ones with experience have shown little ability.
Teddy’s Promise – Another FTS, this is the morning line favorite; you have an edge of seeing the tote board for clues.
Long Shot – Miles Rules
Race 3 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $36,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Fairway Road – Dead late closer should see a lot of early pace to chase; saves ground, grinds it out late.
Wenden – Speedy sort did a pop and stop in last facing much tougher; this is a much easier spot, expect improvement.
Long Shot – Yankee Romance
Race 4 – 7 furlongs, $150,000 A Gleam Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Emmy Darling – If you draw a line thru her last debacle, she looks much better; like that Joel Rosario takes the call.
Free Flying Soul – Sprint specialist is nearly perfect at races 6-furlongs or shorter; is vulnerable the extra furlong.
Long Shot – Moon de French
Race 5 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $41,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Sammartino – Has a big edge today drawing the advantageous rail; saves all the ground and fires fast late.
Gallatin’s Run – Speedball has been away a fully year; she’s favored, but may be prepping for a Del Mar race.
Long Shot – Intuitive Nature
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
Bullfighter – Did a pop and stop last time while facing much tougher; big class drop, should have an easy time of it.
Smokenomore – Been stuck at this reduced class level for 8 races; he faces a slower group each time, gets over the hump?
Long Shot – Sky Searcher
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $44,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Always in Style – Ground saving trip can make all the difference in here; Brice Blanc is completing a solid meeting.
My Maloof Rocker – Speedball leaves from the widest out post; she may be alone in front unless Entabeni insists.
Long Shot – Rollerskates
Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
High Standards – Beaten favorite need only match his winning race two back; saves ground and grinds it out late.
Partywithlarryz – Ran huge last time in a tough beat second; like that Joel Rosario remains loyal to the cause.
Long Shot – Gentle Romeo
Race 9 – 1 1/8th miles, $200,000 Swaps, 3-year-olds
Sidney’s Candy – If this colt loses the Swaps, you’ve got a story; draw a line thru the Kentucky Derby, a no shot effort.
Skipshot – Did everything but win last time in the Affirmed; there wasn’t a Sidney’s Candy in that field though.
Long Shot – Alphie’s Bet
Race 10 – 7 furlongs, Purse $15,600, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Stormy Ambition – Huge rider switch to Martin Pedroza for the money shot; weak ride in last cost any chance to win.
Southern Victory – Big class dropper must be respected on that alone; cull is from the live Gary Mandella barn.
Long Shot – Jesse’s Soul
Best Bet – Sidney’s Candy (race 9)
Hollywood Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/7/$37.80; Long Shots, 7/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
