HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $55,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up

Enriched – Gave a good account of himself in the Alysheba on dirt at Churchill; returns to sod where he is better suited.

Oil Man – Huge class relief for return off a 7-month hiatus; pace should be fast enough for him to close effectively.

Long Shot – Liberian Freighter

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Appealing Afare – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; Bob Baffert & Martin Garcia, say no more.

Indiara – Returns from a brief 2-month hiatus; second best as a beaten favorite in last, needs to step it up a notch.

Long Shot – Lutess

Race 3 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $43,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Uncle Don – Best horse in the underrated barn of Richard Rosales; shows what he can do with a good horse.

Silk Street – Impressive MSW win in last; responded with a career best race first time with blinker’s on.

Long Shot – Raymorrison

Race 4 – 7 furlongs, Purse $41,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Kalookan Commando – Aggressive placement off a good second for $40K price tag; suspect more in his gas tank late.

Prince of Gotham – Underachiever tried blinkers’ on in last to no avail; second start off a 3-month hiatus.

Long Shot – Where’s the Remote

Race 5 – 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up

Indianski – Exits a win over much easier NW2L to face much tougher; like the way he did it and offers solid value.

Bad Boy – Favorite is sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low level; reunited with his friend David Flores.

Long Shot – Bonjour

Race 6 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $29,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Skellytown – The last two marathons were longer than he wanted to go; a mile seems to hit him right between the eyes.

Big Wig – Does not have as much class as his foes, but appears in peak form; 3-for-5 wins in turf miles.

Long Shot – Mr. Katz

Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $41,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Zohrah – Rafael Bejarano never rides for Michael Pender; if you bet the logic of the illogic, you must like her chances.

Honey Bunch – Logical chalk improved a lot in her second career start; if she improves one step, she’ll be awful tough.

Long Shot – Rapport

Race 8 – 7 furlongs, $100,000 Laz Barrera Memorial, 3-year-olds

Skipshot – Like the turn back in distance from grade 1 route to elongated sprint; will show lots of energy late.

Macias – Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry, this is the longer price; was ridden really stupidly in last, more patience needed.

Long Shot – Hawaiian Springs

Race 9 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,600, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Lady Adelle – Disappointed twice under Tyler Baze; John Sadler switches to Rafael Bejarano for the money shot.

Sweet and Jazzy – Shown steady improvement in all 3 career starts; another jump forward and you may have a winner.

Long Shot – Loaded Gun

Best Bet – Appealing Afare (race 2)

Hollywood Park Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/5/$26.40; Long Shots, 8/1/$12.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.60

Hollywood Park Totals – 337/91/$586.80; Long Shots, 165/15/$187.40; Best Bets, 21/10/$47.40

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – #5 Precious Package (5/2) in race 2 at Monmouth Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Al Muhtasib ran third at Belmont Park paying $2.80 to show. Stats – 95/67/$511.80
