HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $34,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Forever My Love – Reunited with Rafael Bejarano who won on her 2 races ago; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.
Closing Steps – Speedball will enjoy the turf rail out 15 feet; Joel Rosario won on the lead with her 3 races back.
Long Shot – Stanford Dolly
Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $43,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Music Magic – Chased a stakes winner in Wynning Ride last time; faces no such animal here, mows them down late.
Classy Attraction – Speedball tactics can be effective in compact field; the key will be if Queen Mariles leaves too.
Long Shot – Foxy Bailey
Race 3 – 1 1/4 miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $40,000, Starter allowance $32,000, 4-year-olds and up
Yodelen Dan – Had no chance last time in a fast-paced marathon versus much classier foes; these are his friends tonight.
Lang Field – Speedball has won a couple nice turf races at Hollywood; clears the field, plays catch me if you can.
Long Shot – Brushburn
Race 4 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $41,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Clubhouse Ride – Was well bet in debut and barely ran a step; sneaky suspicion that he will run much better in second start.
J P’s Gusto – Tepid chalk in a wide open baby race; your giant edge will be seeing the tote board action on all the FTS.
Long Shot – River’s Chapel
Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $44,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Street Car – Did a classic pop and stop in last off an 11-month hiatus; suspect will be a lot tighter this time around.
Kanan Dume – His one race around 2 turns stunk, but Doug O’Neill tries again; he claimed the horse and may have found something.
Long Shot – Gold Aly
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Elusive Moment – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; goes as fast and as far as he can.
Dangerous Curves – Dead late closer should be able to gobble up the cheap early speed; Joel Rosario sits and fires late.
Long Shot – Revitalization
Race 7 – 7 furlongs, $100,000 Railbird, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Switch – Like the parking lot post in an elongated sprint; also like the turn back in distance, should be able to finish.
Tanda – The rail post is worst in an elongated sprint; still she has the talent to overcome being buried inside.
Long Shot – All Due Respect
Race 8 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $41,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Take a Yard – FTS from the clever Peter Miller barn; has worked fast and has the pedigree to excel on the greensward.
Blazing – Favorite has a tough post in turf sprint; field takes a hard left turn soon after the start causing big ground loss.
Long Shot – Cragmont
Race 9 – 7 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
Taxi Fleet – Rafael Bejarano could cap off another multiple win day; parking lot post helps in an elongated sprint.
Quarta Coroa – A. C. Avila barn continues to burn up the Inglewood freeway; third start off an 11-month hiatus.
Long Shot – Just Heat
Best Bet – Taxi Fleet (race 9)
Hollywood Park Saturday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/5/$24.40; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00
Hollywood Park Totals – 200/53/$327.60; Long Shots, 97/9/$115.40; Best Bets, 12/4/$15.00
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – #6 Wild Awake (7/2) in race 8 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Next Day was scratched at Belmont Park. Stats – 87/61/$464.50
