HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 4 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

Awesome Swiss – The Hollywood meet usually means trainer Mike Harrington and his Swiss Yodeler babies.

Really Uptown – Uncoupled entry from Harrington; I fully expect one of the two to win the meet opener.

Long Shot – Grace Upon Grace

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Donttellmewhattodo – Faced much tougher in debut and Del Mar and then at Oak Tree; tough is ready to fire.

Spun Silver – FTS from future Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert; need not be much to get heard from here.

Long Shot – Annihilation

Race 3 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds and up

Porfido – Bobby Frankel officially gave up on this guy for an $80K price tag; big time class relief.

Bonjour – Another exiting graded stakes for this much softer spot; cuts back in distance for this.

Long Shot – Union Avenue

Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $11,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Foxy Games – Speedball from the rail should just leave; Jesus Rios is a very underrated rider.

Annís Plan – Turned in a real stinker last time; her prior races are certainly competitive with these.

Long Shot – Ju Ju Baby

Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $44,000, Claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up

Cee Bargara – Dead late closer should see a positive race shape to rally into; first major upset of the meet?

Epic Power – Tepid chalk in an open looking affair; with a fast early pace, he can win from off the pace.

Long Shot – Kris Silver

Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

Return of the King – Claimed by Kathy Walsh who quietly is having a fine year; taken for $40k, in for $20K.

Cape Town King – Could complete a king of an exacta box; away 10-month, fresh blood for the Inglewood meet.

Long Shot – Scottish Diamond

Race 7 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), $70,000 Harry Henson, 3-year-olds

Wall Street Wonder – Like the turn back in distance plus Bob Baffert adds blinkers on; can stalk the pace.

Backbackbackgone – Tepid chalk in another difficult race; draw a line thru the Sunshine Millions and he looks good.

Long Shot – Position A

Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Ribald – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; Joel Rosario takes over.

Drake Lake – Another taking the class drop from MSW to maiden claiming; his race two back was not bad.

Long Shot – Philly Slew

Best Bet – Ribald (race 8)
