TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 11 a.m.

Race 1 – 1 mile, Purse $27,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies, 4-year-olds

Dances With Tigers – When Jeff Mullins horses get good, they usually stay good; he adds blinkers on for more focus.

Mud Sweat ‘n Tears – Beat many of these last time and is still not the morning line favorite; need only repeat her last.

Long Shot – Rare Ribbon

Race 2 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds

Jacob’s Little Bro – Mike Pupye faces 6 other trainers who are all winless at the meet; second time starter moves forward.

Korban – Beaten favorite ran a better than looked race in last; Marty Jones is among many winless trainers in here.

Long Shot – Dohnster

Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $57,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Foxy Danseur – Exits the grade 1 La Brea for this much easier task; will sit in arrears and make one big run.

Moonshine Alice – She has the ability, key is this is her synthetic surface debut; two good turf races are an indicator.

Long Shot – Coco Belle

Race 4 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $45,000, Starter handicap $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

Lockford – Exits a no chance fifth in a turf marathon; Rafael Bejarano saves all the ground and rallies late.

Icemancometh – Speedball gets the perfect rider to nurse him along, Mike Smith; class drop from the Sir Beaufort helps.

Long Shot – One On the House

Race 5 – 1 mile, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds

Turk – Unlucky to lose his first two starts by inches both times; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip throughout.

Oscar Bound – Gets a break in the post from 11 and 10 to down inside tonight; can improve and win at a price.

Long Shot – Life Goes On

Race 6 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 8 feet), Purse $52,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up

New Fandan – Fine U.S. debut at Gulfstream, now switches to SoCal with a big future in mind; Bejarano gets the reins.

Lease of Life – Bobby Frankel barn reloads with beautifully bred horses; value comes from Patrick Husbands riding.

Long Shot – Chanjo

Race 7 – 7 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds and up

Stormin Away – Jeff Mullins has an uncoupled entry in here and I expect one of them to win; value with Tyler Baze.

Bewitching Bartok – Ran a winning race for this class level in last; he beat this kind two races ago, logical.

Long Shot – Natural Touch

Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 8 feet), $100,000 La Habra, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Acting Lady – Rafael Bejarano had choices and lands here; like the turn back in distance, should be flying late.

Ready Steady Gone – Among many who looked good graduating; the key for me is she rallied fast into a very slow pace.

Long Shot – Pasar Silbano

Race 9 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up

Unusual Justin – This has the look of a race that could just blow up; second start off a 7-month hiatus could be a corker.

Fractious Child – Tepid chalk in a wide open race; taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming.

Long Shot – Senor Afortunado

Best Bet – Acting Lady (race 8)

Santa Anita Saturday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/3/$17.20; Long Shots, 9/1/$4.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.60

Santa Anita Totals – 459/113/$751.80; Long Shots, 231/35/$390.40; Best Bets, 27/10/$42.00

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – While TrackNet blacks out Santa Anita in Nevada, I’ll offer one pick per day at a racetrack that we can make a parimutuel wager. For scoring purposes, I’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet. Today’s horse is Jewel Basin (5/2) in race 1 at Tampa Bay Downs.
