HORSE RACING
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $23,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Dixie Hawks – Sometimes you handicap horses, other times the humans; my vote for Garrett Gomez and Jerry Hollendorfer.
Twoformeoneforyou – Woodbine shippers continue to impress where they invade; no telling how much the filly can improve.
Long Shot – Nuschka’s Dream
Race 2 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
Wheaton Hall – Mike Mitchell claimed for $40K but is winning with him at lower class levels; remains the one to catch.
Stand Tall – Has responded with consecutive win at this cozy lower class level; will sit in arrears for one big run.
Long Shot – Extreme Notice
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Kentucky Nectar – FTS from Doug O’Neill; he has an uncoupled entry in here, so keep an eye on Peace Roll too.
Captivating Lyrics – Showed some run in her races and got claimed by Brian Koriner; small improvement gives her a shot.
Long Shot – At Your Service
Race 4 – 7 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Joint Agreement – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much in here.
Sunny Peace – Speedy tactics, now is shortening up in distance; she is better than she showed last time out.
Long Shot – Warren’s Walk
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Cool Haleigh – Big rally, just missed last time out; she’ll be at the mercy of the pace again, but can improve.
Kula Girl – Speedball looks cheap on paper, but can clear these early; goes as fast and as far as she can.
Long Shot – Laureldean Gale
Race 6 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Motorboat – Just missed last time as a beaten favorite; suspect Bejarano will show more speed to protect his rail post.
Haggis Macpherson – Been away a year, but takes a steep class drop on return; has enough speed to get involved early.
Long Shot – Minnie’s Boy
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $52,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
Unbridled Roman – Tried to rally into a fast paced Cal-bred stakes in last; will like the softer route pace tonight.
Hi Flyin Indy – He is bred to be something special, graduated in start number three; goes up the condition ladder.
Long Shot – Danny Q
Race 8 – 7 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Sarah’s Melody – Jim Cassidy barn has been heating up of late; like the turn back in distance for an elongated sprint.
Lunar City – Matt Chew adds blinkers on today for focus and more speed; filly takes a sharp class drop for this.
Long Shot – Sand Bridled
Best Bet – Dixie Hawks (race 1)
Santa Anita Wednesday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/4/$19.00; Long Shots, 7/0/$0; Best Bet, 0/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals – 410/102/$686.60; Long Shots, 206/32/$362.20; Best Bets, 24/9/$39.40
