TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $47,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up
Cointreau – Second start off a 11-month hiatus; found his best stride late, figures to be much tighter in start number two.
Full In – Tepid chalk in a wide open affair; ran like a short horse off a 14-month hiatus, claimed by Jerry Hollendorfer.
Long Shot – Ghosttrapper
Race 2 – 7 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Gloria Jeanne – Just missed last time in a game effort; she capable of better, value is there as Go Cardinal Gal is favored.
Go Cardinal Go – Morning line chalk off a good second in last; Joel Rosario for Chantal Sutherland who returned to Woodbine.
Long Shot – Sting’n Inthe Rain
Race 3 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $26,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Applaud Dubai – Trainer Jeff Mullins has been known to give a struggling rider a shot; Almeida will help this guy’s odds.
Madame Kiawah – Other part of Jeff Mullins uncoupled entry; she is favored, but this is as tough a race as there is tonight.
Long Shot – Quaint Lass
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Intouchable – Richard Mandella babies typically improve with racing; main thing I don’t like is the inside post position.
Burnt – Ran miserably in Cushion track debut last time; her turf race before that was on the square, expect big improvement.
Long Shot – Perfect Quality
Race 5 – 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Ann’s Plan – Emerald Downs invader ran well in her SoCal debut; Rosario takes over, again, for Sutherland, will close fast.
Kilmartin Hall – Flattered when Dine at Nine won right back next out; big rider switch to Joe Talamo for the money shot.
Long Shot – No Name Just Game
Race 6 – 7 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Amybelle – Like the turn back in distance and return to Cushion track; she broke her maiden over this two races ago.
Inspiration Within – Tepid chalk in another difficult heat; she could improve in her second start off a 9-month hiatus.
Long Shot – Sparky’s Precision
Race 7 – 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $61,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Green Lyons – I know what the others can do, leap of faith this is a good filly; Drysdale barn is quietly heating up.
Musical High – Been away 7-months since facing much tougher at Del Mar; she may need a race, but this is a soft condition.
Long Shot – Princess Zozo
Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Go All In – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; natural distance horse can grind away late.
Carona Time – Dead game last time in first race around 2-turns; could improve off that effort making him one of the ones.
Long Shot – Pace to Burn
Best Bet – Gloria Jeanne (race 2)
