HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 – 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Seismometer – The one race experience can play a large positive factor; beaten favorite adds first time Lasix today.
Jack Flash – Mike Harrington points his Swiss Yodeler babies for this meet; watch the tote, both could be live in here.
Long Shot – Granite
Race 2 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
June My Love – Should have every chance to improve as a beaten favorite last time; like the rider switch to Rafael Berjarano.
Smooth Performer – David Flores had his choice of mounts and lands here; filly has been knocking at the door, logical chalk.
Long Shot – Belleacton
Race 3 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Carona Time – Among 3 who just broke their maiden; he seemed to relish 2-turn racing, tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.
Kielbasa – Logical chalk with Santa Anita riding champion Bejarano up; no small feat in his first full season in SoCal.
Long Shot – Muscle ‘n Mane
Race 4 – 7 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Table Four Ten – Bejarano is quickly forging a positive alliance with Doug O’Neill; class relief and adding blinkers on.
Dr. J J – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; should be dead fit exiting a turf race.
Long Shot – Youarefun
Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $57,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
Mi Arcobaleno – Disappointed as a heavy favorite in last; forgiving handicappers will get a slightly better price today.
Albertus Maximus – Returned from a 4-month hiatus with strictly a test drive; expect a more determined effort in here.
Long Shot – Native Success
Race 6 – 7 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
Law Breaker – Bob Baffert has been reduced to winning races like this; like the turn back in distance and parking lot post.
Brave Sun – His race two back, facing better, is fast enough to upset these; competitive with Bejarano in a wide open race.
Long Shot – Ferndale Sal
Race 7 – 1 mile (turf), $100,000 Wilshire Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Gentle Gale – Bobby Frankel rarely enters a stakes race unless he has a big shot; this filly has a high ceiling, good value.
Diamond Diva – Favorite may be forced out of her element as there’s a lot of early speed in here; we’ll see if she can rate.
Long Shot – Colina Verde
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Early Anna – She’s beaten better in her resume, including wins over Hollywood Cushion track; tactical speed to sit a trip.
Sneaky Jack – Tepid chalk in a difficult high five race; if she responds to the steep class drop, she’ll be right there.
Long Shot – Topper’s Smiling
Best Bet – Law Breaker (race 6)
Santa Anita Sunday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 21/5/$34.40; Long Shots, 10/1/$8.00; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.80
