HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
No Due Diligence – Only two have experience and her race, by far, was better; short price facing four FTS.
Trash Master – Rafael Bejarano is one this FTS for Barry Abrams; you’ll have the edge of seeing the tote board action.
Long Shot – Spanish Ice
Race 2 – 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Donas Miracle Lane – Claimed by the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; first time on turf, but she has shown lots of ability.
Justice Is Brief – Logical chalk due to class relief out of the Las Cienegas; hate the fact she is 0-for-11 on grass.
Long Shot – Moscow Rising
Race 3 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $28,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Frankelstein – When you’re the lone speed, you do have a competitive advantage; Joe Talamo takes him as far as he’ll go.
Gallardo – Logical chalk is taking a suspicious class drop off a win; Koriner has already won out on this recent claim.
Long Shot – Sorta Gold
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Warrington – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; Rafael Becerra takes the blinkers off.
Warren’s Moonkross – Has been closing well from wide, parking lot posts; moves in to a middle stall, Talamo stays loyal.
Long Shot – Son of Dionisi
Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $53,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Smooth and Savvy – His two turf tries have been above average placings; will save all the ground under clever Tyler Baze.
British Medium – Has done more on grass than anyone in the field, but has yet to race around 2-turns; will get overbet.
Long Shot – Man to Man
Race 6 – 7 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Anatolian Gold – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; his race two back is fast enough to upset.
Ace High Hand – Logical chalk is also taking the big class drop from MSW to maiden claiming; exits a razor sharp bullet work.
Long Shot – Lunch time
Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs, $75,000 Captain Squire Handicap, 3-year-olds
Leonides – Ran huge in the Lone Star Derby, losing a photo to El Gato Malo; like the turn back in distance, will fire late.
Sea of Pleasure – This looks like the Jeff Mullins invitational; remember he trained Captain Squire a few years back.
Long Shot – Ten Meropa
Race 8 – 1 1/4 miles, $150,000 Beverly Hills Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Double Trouble – She was grossly overmatched in the Milady behind Zenyatta; returns to grass where she’s run her best races.
Black Mamba – Big favorite has one bad habit, she likes to run second best; figures to be way overbet with Garrett Gomez up.
Long Shot – Marzelline
Race 9 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Del Conte – Bob Baffert barn has quietly won a lot of races, albeit small fish purses; suspect his best horses are elsewhere.
Captain Steel – Tepid chalk in a wide open race; Clinton Potts has heated up riding first call for Jeff Mullins, a good deal.
Long Shot – Speight the Halo
Best Bet – Donas Miracle Lane (race 2)
Hollywood Saturday- Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 21/3/$13.80; Long Shots, 11/1/$8.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
