TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Udriga – Logical chalk ran one good synthetic surface race at Del Mar; appears in fine form off some turf sprints.
Afleet’s Desire – Gomez exits others to ride for Cerin; will rally late in second start off a 2-month hiatus.
Long Shot – Steppin Out Rose
Race 2 – 1 mile, Purse $57,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
Smooth and Savvy – Had no chance in the San Fernando and was not abused late; class relief should suit him fine here.
Native Success – Speedball figures to jump in front and control the fractions; plays catch me if you can.
Long Shot – Modernoso
Race 3 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $34,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
No Ka Oi – Bothered while part of a blanket finish last time out; subtle class drop, better trip can get it done.
Sunday Dress – Claimed by Mitchell and spotted nicely to win again; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.
Long Shot – Kalookan Lessie
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds
Distinctive Afleet – Claimed by Ellis who put a bullet work into him for this; chance to beat a pretty slow group.
Purr for Me – Two things going for him, a steep class drop and the addition of Bejarano; need not be much to graduate.
Long Shot – Milwaukeebrewkaroo
Race 5 – 1 mile, Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds
Dawn’s Early Sky – Last time he ran for a claiming price, he broke his maiden; should enjoy the big time class relief.
Law Breaker – Found the fast pace of a quick sprint a bit too much octane; will like the slower pace of today’s route.
Long Shot – Tour Da Bronx
Race 6 – 1 mile, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Dee’s Fling – Big rider switch to David Flores for the money shot; subtle class drop will really help this time.
Beyond Boundries – Good second last time facing similar foes; leaves from an advantageous rail post at one mile.
Long Shot – Fallbrook
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $57,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
On the Virg – Good looking 3-year-old gets a big test here to step it up; never too late to make your mark.
Overbid – Was well regarded enough to run in the San Rafael off a MSW win; this spot is much more realistic.
Long Shot – Afleet Ruler
Race 8 – 1 mile, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Cadeaux du Monde – Chalk has run some decent races facing better foes; Palma adds blinkers on for winning focus.
Oh I Tripped – Going 2-turns for the first time, will appreciate the much slower pace; suspect he’ll be closer to the pace.
Long Shot – Babu
Best Bet – Smooth and Savvy (race 2)
