TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $44,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds

Fort Funston – Gilchrist thought he was stakes worthy in last; runs first time for a claiming price facing easier.

Kiss My Crown – Claimed by Becerra, this colt has won both his starts in driving finishes; fits Gomez riding style.

Long Shot – Polish Pete

Race 2 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $28,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Sunday Dress – Like the turn back in distance where her finishing kick will be stronger; Gomez takes over for the money shot.

Mama Lula – Ran poorly from a parking lot post last time; her race two back, if repeated, is fast enough to upset these.

Long Shot – Hennessy Rose

Race 3 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Raebear – Frankel charge switches from turf to Cushion Track; she’s run well on sod and is showing steady improvement.

Igraine – At one point she looked like a potential stakes filly; now she can’t get out of her first level allowance conditin.

Long Shot – Princess Zozo

Race 4 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $34,000, Maiden claiming $75,000, 3-year-olds

Pay What You Owe – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.

Surf Rider – Another taking the big class drop from MSW to maiden claiming; chased stakes winner Crown of Thorns in last.

Long Shot – Huss the King

Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $38,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Mark Set Go – Been away a full year, but has back class and a strong resume for this; note, Gomez rarely rides for Kathy Walsh.

Categorize – May have been pushed too early last time while facing tougher foes; class relief and patience will really help

Long Shot – La Matanza

Race 6 – 1 1/18th miles, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds

B R’s Girl – Making her third start off a 3-month hiatus; has shown good tactical speed, Gomez may settle and make one run.

Smooth Performer – Inside post will allow her to save all the ground under hot riding Flores; sits midpack until the stretch.

Long Shot – Wicked Delight

Race 7 – 7 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up

Political High – Marked improvement in last two starts since claimed by Hollendorfer; if he repeats those races, he’ll win.

Kaianagandaia – Was well placed but didn’t have the required late kick in last; his odds will rise, but he could rebound today.

Long Shot – Publication

Race 8 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $52,000, Optional claiming 432,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Britney Heat – Claimed by Pupye off another sharp effort; she’ll shorten up today, lot to like with good post and turf resume.

Princess Amelie – Not sure what she beat in debut, but she did it easily; Ellis has carefully chosen this spot for her next try.

Long Shot – Charm N Broad

Race 9 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $24,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Afternoon Gold – Leap of faith that Gomez is riding this filly because she’s live; otherwise he’s just doing Sadler a favor.

Point Reyna – Ran a strong race in last stretching out for the first time; suspect she’s legit and can compete with these again.

Long Shot – Byballot

Best Bet – Sunday Dress (race 2)
