HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $37,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up
Iza General – Claimed by Hess off a powerful turf sprint win in last; runs best when he sits off the pace, good trip likely.
Mi Rey – Speedy sort proved uncatchable last time in another turf sprint; suspect Espinoza will opt to send him again tonight.
Long Shot – Pro Prado
Race 2 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $11,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up
Corkonian – Second start off a 2-month hiatus; had a troubled trip in last by no fault of his own, like that Talamo takes over.
Largo – Good tactical speed and the rail in an abbreviated sprint; suspect Pedroza will need to protect his inside position.
Long Shot – Ribomoon
Race 3 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Abandoneer – Yakteen taking the blinkers off for this guy’s turf debut; tells me that Flores will try to take him back some.
Jupiter’s Stone – His best races have come on grass as he was a stride late last time; good post to save all the ground.
Long Shot – Rocky Road
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Five Star Charm – Didn’t run a lick last time after a real good try two back; blinkers come off and adds long shot rider Agapito.
Town Thief – Tepid chalk in a pretty difficult heat; has tactical speed where Pedroza can either send or sit a decent trip.
Long Shot – Noble Tradition
Race 5 – 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $39,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up
Jake Skate – Razor sharp right now for O’Neill, no reason he can’t handle these on the class rise; set a soft pace in last.
Denied – Gets big time class relief off a stakes he helped fill the field; bugboy Talamo loves to settle and make one run.
Long Shot – Courtnall
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Rudeameanie – Just missed last time in a sharp try; a similar effort tonight should be fast enough to tame these slowpokes.
Cards Speak – Tough trip last time from parking lot post 13; adding blinkers on, meet leading rider Baze remains loyal.
Long Shot – Jakedontknow
Race 7 – 7 furlongs, Purse $49,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Private Dreams – Like these NoCal trainers at the end of the Hollywood meet; Hollendorfer filly had a rough start last time.
Lake Marina – Like the turn back in distance from a 2-turn route to this elongated sprint; expect Talamo to relax her early.
Long Shot – Purrfectly Fitting
Race 8 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Characteristic – Second start off a 18-month sabbatical; good race to try and beat the chalk, should show some improvement.
Cascadia’s Star – Claimed by Hines up in NoCal and spotted well to do some running; leap of faith that Talamo knows something.
Long Shot – Weft
Best Bet – Corkonian (race 2)
Hollywood Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/6/$26.00; Long Shots, 7/1/$6.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.20
Hollywood Totals – 995/237/$1,552.00; Long Shots, 486/68/$724.80; Best Bets, 59/26/$108.80
