Horse Racing: Today at Hollywood Park, Dec. 14

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $52,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up

3 Tripski – Steve Asmussen has a string of horses in SoCal again this winter; this one has faced better in New York and Florida.

5 Silver Dragon – Had an adventure in the stretch last time; has a powerful late kick, but must have a clear path to do his best.

Long Shot – 1 El Mirage King

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

5 Pat’s Back – Can benefit if a speed duel erupts in front of him; Peter Miller is searching for wins to try and catch Bob Baffert.

4 Tribal Dress – Speedball sliding down the claiming ladder; offers good value at this reduced rate for a sneaky barn.

Long Shot – 6 She’s a Go Girl

Race 3 – 1 1/2 miles (turf), $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup, 3-year-olds and up

5 Temeraine – From the potent duo of Gary Stevens and Tom Proctor; makes his SoCal debut after traveling the continent in tough tests.

6 Lucayan – Ran miserably when shipped to Woodbine; has run many good stakes races in SoCal without taking home the bacon.

Long Shot – 1 Artic North

Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $12,500, 3-year-olds and up

2 Zuboff – Sharp win over lesser for Peter Miller; he is throwing the kit and kaboodle trying to mass enough wins to capture the title.

3 Dunmore East – Another moving up the class ladder after a sharp win; would you rather bet a sharp, cheap horse or a classier dropdown?

Long Shot – 5 Would You

Race 5 – 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

10 Salsita – Ran OK on turf in last, but is better on the main track; should be a solid speed effort under hustling Edwin Maldonado.

3 Sheza Smoke Show – Ran well in debut and was thought of enough to hire Rafael Bejarano; Joe Talamo has the mount this afternoon.

Long Shot – 4 Midnight Dream

Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up

2 Street Status – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; his two speed figures could crush this group.

12 Cuneo – Speedy sort is cutting back in distance and taking a huge class drop; need not be much to compete with these.

Long Shot – 9 Senor Pegasus

Race 7 – 1 1/8th miles, $150,000 Native Diver, 3-year-olds and up0

8 Rousing Sermon – Has been building up his resume block by block; like horses that won while running a slower Beyer speed rating.

6 Soi Phet – One of the best claims of the entire year; Leonard Powell claimed for $16K and is now graded stakes placed.

Long Shot – 1 Blueskiesnrainbows

Race 8 – 1 1/8th miles (turf), Purse $48,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

2 Spring Up – After winning an O/C $80K, this is a good spot to repeat; Corey Nakatani remains one of the best turf riders in the U.S.

6 Boyett – Still nice to have Joel Rosario around; whether he moves too soon or too late, he always has a plan going into the race.

Long Shot – 10 Bench Light

Race 9 – 1 1/16th miles, $750,000 Cash Call Futurity, 2-year-olds

6 Shared Belief – Has won 2 straight without taking a deep breath; hard not to get overexcited, lets see his first test around 2-turns.

2 Tamarando – Except for a dull debut, he has never run a poor race; 8 starts nowadays is considered a lot for a top echelon 2-year-old.

Long Shot – 5 Tap It Rich

Race 10 – 1 mile (turf), Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds

5 Kantina Kowgirl – Leap of faith that Rafael Bejarano is on a live mount; looks ugly, but I let the jock’s agent handicap the race for me.

3 Im a Giant Star – When a top rider, Joel Rosario, rides a FTS he must know something; he and Peter Miller have had a successful union.

Long Shot – 7 Euroclydon

Best Bet – 2 Street Status (race 6)

Hollywood Park Friday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/3/$12.20; Long Shots, 7/1/$5.40; Best Bet, 0/0/$0
