Giants’ Super triumph far from ‘Snoozer Bowl’
To the sports editor:
As “Rants & Raves” columnist Joe Hawk discovered last Sunday, this year’s Super Bowl was “everything” but the “Snoozer Bowl.”
From David Tyree’s unbelievable catch — the greatest reception I have witnessed in more than 50 years of following football — to quarterback Eli Manning’s Most Valuable Player performance to the team’s outstanding defense, the New York Giants put on the greatest exhibition of teamwork ever.
As for the New England “Cheaters,” they got what they deserved in Super Bowl XLII — nothing!

Pats fans’ stunned silence proves truly sweet sound
To the sports editor:
Tell “Snoozer Bowl” Joe Hawk that at the Palazzo, where I work, you could hear a pin drop in the halls and in the rooms as the Giants were beating the Patriots last Sunday.
That just goes to prove how many football fans were rooting for the “pukey” Pats, which, in turn, made that truly amazing victory all the sweeter.
Furthermore, it speaks of everyone’s cockiness in believing that the “(Tom) Brady train” was just going to roll over everyone on its way to a perfect season.
Not New York.
Help me spread the word to turn Feb. 3 into an official holiday.

Specter wastes voters’ time with Spygate flap
To the sports editor:
Sen. Arlen Specter has nothing better to do with his time than to ask NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to explain why the Patriots’ Spygate tapes were destroyed?
Is this senator delusional? Shouldn’t he be devoting his energy to coming up with a viable solution for our national health-care problems, to finding solutions for balancing the budget, etc.
If I were a constituent of Specter, I would ask him to resign or else get his priorities right, instead of wasting everyone’s time.

Difficulty with The Mtn. hurts Rebels basketball
To the sports editor:
It’s not surprising UNLV does not fill up the Thomas & Mack Center for men’s basketball games considering the large number of Rebels fans who cannot watch road games on TV.
DirecTV does not show The Mtn. network, and many people in Las Vegas do not have cable.
It’s a shame DirecTV does not care enough about the fans in the mountain states to put our teams’ sports network on the air.

Mountain West should add Boise State to mix
To the sports editor:
Boise State wants to get into the Mountain West Conference. Wyoming is the weakest link in the Mountain West as far as schools bringing something to the table.
Swapping the two — sending Wyoming to the Western Athletic Conference — would improve the strength of schedule for the Mountain West teams, thus improving the conference’s chances of getting into a Bowl Championship Series game.
