Local colleges roundup: UNLV baseball wins in walk-off, 6-5

Freshman Justin Jones hit a walk-off double in the ninth inning to give the UNLV baseball team (7-3) a 6-5 win over Loyola Marymount on Friday at Wilson Stadium.

Andrew Beresford got the win in relief, alllowing one run in two innings.

The Rebels host Bradley at 6:05 p.m. today.

■ SOFTBALL — UNLV (7-10) snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-0 win over Weber State (0-11) and 4-2 victory over Cal State Northridge (6-13) to open the Eller Media Stadium Classic.

Amanda Oliveto (6-4) threw nine scoreless innings over the two games, earning the win against Weber State. Jaexie Balilea went 3-for-6 with a home run in the doubleheader.

The Rebels play two more games today, against DePaul at 3:45 p.m. and New Mexico State at 6 p.m.

COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN NEVADA

■ SOFTBALL — No. 1-ranked Salt Lake Community College swept a doubleheader from CSN (12-11), 2-1 and 3-1, at the Russell Road Recreation Complex.

Jasmine Fukuda had an RBI single in the first game and went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the second game for CSN. The Coyotes loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning of the second game but couldn’t get the tying run home.

The teams play another doubleheader at noon today.
