UFC lightweight Tibau notified of second failed test

Veteran Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight Gleison Tibau has been notified of a second failed drug test by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

Tibau was informed in early December he had failed an out-of-competition test due to the presence of EPO before his fight against Abel Trujillo. The second failed test resulted from a sample taken the night of the fight in November.

After the results of the first test were revealed, Tibau was provisionally suspended by the UFC.

The UFC released a statement on its website.

“(USADA) has notified both Gleison Tibau and UFC of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an in-competition sample collected immediately after his bout in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Nov. 7, 2015. Tibau and UFC were previously notified that he had been provisionally suspended due to a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition test,” the statement read. “USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Tibau. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”

Under the UFC’s rules for its USADA-administered drug testing program, Tibau faces a two-year ban for a first offense. His win over Trujillo could also be changed to a no contest, pending the outcome of his appeal.
