Needles to face Lincoln County in both finals

RENO — Marissa Smerek scored 18 points to lead Lincoln County to a 49-46 win over Battle Mountain on Friday at North Valleys High to set up an all-South Class 2A girls state basketball final.

The Lynx play Needles (Calif.) in the title game at noon today at Lawlor Events Center.

Jordan Waugh scored 18 points for the Longhorns.

Needles (Calif.) 48, Pershing County 46 — At North Valleys, Louise Solomon had 16 points as Needles edged Pershing County to move into the title game.

Mary Marquez added 11 points for Needles, which beat Lincoln County 59-49 in the Class 2A Southern League title game.

BOYS

Lincoln County 73, Rite of Passage 65 — Dantley Walker scored 36 points for the Lynx, who blew open the game with a 28-point fourth quarter.

Kevin Hannig added 16 points and Chris Bernal 12 for Lincoln County, which plays Needles (Calif.) in the title game at 1:40 p.m. today at Lawlor.

Elijah Rucker had 23 points and Nigel Williams 20 for the Rams.

Needles (Calif.) 69, Pershing County 64 — At North Valleys, Darra Russell had 31 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter to lead Needles.

Will Schumacher had 18 points and Jayce Montes 17 for Pershing County, which made nine 3-pointers.

Needles beat Lincoln County 67-54 in the 2A Southern League title game.
