QB Clement heads Locos’ protected list
The Las Vegas Locomotives thought enough of quarterback Chase Clement to place him on their 40-man protected player list Wednesday.
Clement guided the Locos to their second consecutive United Football League title in November after starting quarterback Tim Rattay ruptured an Achilles tendon.
Other notable Locos on the protected list are running backs Dede Dorsey and Marcel Shipp, tight end Adam Bergen, wide receivers Tab Perry and Sammie White, offensive tackle Frank Adams, linebackers Teddy Lehman and Ed Hartwell, defensive back Wale Dada and defensive end Erik Henderson.
“We’ve had great chemistry on the field and in the locker room, so while we are constantly looking to improve our talent, we do not want to disrupt what has already proven to be a successful group of men,” Locos president and coach Jim Fassel said.
Rattay was hurt Oct. 15 against Sacramento and missed the rest of the season. Clement eventually won the starting job and led the team to its second consecutive Bill Hambrecht Trophy.
The Locos will look to add to their protected roster with public tryouts from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Sam Boyd Stadium. Players interested in participating should go to the UFL’s website at ufl-football.com for more information.
