Scoring surge helps UNLV win exhibition game against Washburn

Chace Stanback scored all of his 23 points in the second half to lift UNLV to an 88-53 exhibition victory over Washburn tonight at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Carlos Lopez scored 17 points and Anthony Marshall had 11 for the Rebels, who open the regular season Friday against UC Riverside.

UNLV coach Lon Kruger benched Stanback for the first half because of academic reasons. The junior forward showed he’s ready to reclaim his spot in the starting lineup.

Stanback’s scoring surge covered less than 14 minutes. He made 4 of 5 3-pointers, the last putting the Rebels up 77-38 with 6:18 remaining.

UNLV led 38-19 at halftime against the Ichabods, a Division II team from Topeka, Kan.
