Sockers eliminate Legends in overtime, 6-5
The San Diego Sockers scored on a scissor kick one minute into overtime Sunday night to defeat the Las Vegas Legends 6-5 in the Professional Arena Soccer League semifinals at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.
The Legends (13-3) tied the game at 5 with only 40.3 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to force extra time.
“I certainly am very disappointed with the loss tonight, but at the same time we are a young, first-year team, and to have reached the semifinal game is a huge accomplishment,” coach Greg Howes said in a release. “This was a very emotional and physical game, and the penalties really hurt us tonight. We have a wonderful foundation to build on for next season. Our team is talented, balanced, skilled and have a passion for soccer. Great attributes to build on for next year.”
