Gorman product Ben Carter likely to transfer to UNLV
Two years ago, Ben Carter left his hometown to play college basketball at Oregon. He could be returning home and transferring to UNLV.
Carter, a 6-foot-8-inch sophomore forward, received a release from his scholarship this week and is expected to announce his transfer decision soon. Rebels coach Dave Rice courted Carter the first time around and is likely to get him this time.
Carter, a Bishop Gorman High School product, is seeking more playing time than he got for the Ducks. In 25 games this season, Carter started five times and averaged 2.5 points and 12.7 minutes.
Mike Moser, who transferred from UNLV to Oregon for his senior season, jumped ahead of Carter in the Ducks’ rotation and was the team’s leading rebounder and second-leading scorer.
Carter played in all 37 games as a freshman and scored a season-high 12 points in Oregon’s 83-79 victory over the Rebels at the Thomas &Mack Center.
UNLV has a scholarship available after junior forward Roscoe Smith last week declared for the NBA Draft.
