Vick still dogged by his past

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson might run precise pass routes, but he doesn’t always choose his words carefully.

After the Eagles routed the Washington Redskins 59-28 on Monday night, Jackson compared his team to a pack of wild dogs while discussing his pregame altercation with Redskins safety LaRon Landry.

“The pregame altercation got us going. … We came back into the locker room pumped,” he said. “We were like pit bulls, ready to get out of the cage.”

Jackson’s comment must have made Eagles quarterback Michael Vick cringe, considering Vick was sentenced to a 23-month sentence in federal prison for his role in a dogfighting ring and had just played perhaps the best game of his NFL career.

Vick, who accounted for six touchdowns, has renounced dogfighting and has worked with the Humane Society to raise awareness about the violence. But some people never will forgive him for his heinous acts.

Theonion.com, a news satire website, recently ran a story headlined, “Report: Michael Vick getting confident enough to do something terrible again.”

■ LOVERS’ SPAT — Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Terrell Owens seemingly rips Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb, his former Eagles teammate, every chance he gets.

After McNabb threw three interceptions in the loss to Philadelphia on the day he signed a five-year contract with Washington, Owens tweeted, “How do u justify a 78 million dollar contract w/this type of performance?”

Owens also bashed McNabb on his “T.Ocho Show” after McNabb was benched in the final minutes of a loss to Detroit.

“Well, I don’t really want to start anything, but I did play in the Super Bowl, and there were rumors where he couldn’t get our two-minute offense going at the end of the game,” Owens said of Philadelphia’s 24-21 loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX.

McNabb, whose Redskins are 4-5, responded Tuesday on ESPN Radio. “It’s unbelievable how they can comment on what I’m doing over here,” he said, pointing out Cincinnati is 2-7.

Can’t these two see that they’re in love with each other?

■ BROWNS FAN TACKLES KID — In a new low for drunken NFL fan behavior, an adult Browns fan allegedly tackled an 8-year-old New York Jets fan Sunday after Cleveland’s 26-20 overtime loss.

Wearing a Jets jersey and accompanied by his father, the boy was attacked as he reached the parking lot of Cleveland Browns Stadium, according to the boy’s mother, identified only as Danielle by a Cleveland ABC affiliate because she didn’t want to reveal her last name.

“As (my husband) was walking, holding my son’s hand, a guy from behind tackled him,” she said. “A drunken Browns fan tackled him and pulled him out of his dad’s hand. He was on the ground crying.”

Left with a scraped and bruised ankle, the boy said he didn’t want to return to the stadium anytime soon.

Said Danielle: “Who could blame him?”

Certainly not Browns fans, who haven’t enjoyed many games there in recent years.
