Arbitrator sides with former chief marshal Bonvicin

Former North Las Vegas Police Department Lt. Ricardo Bonvicin, who rose to chief marshal of the NLV Municipal Court before losing his job, won his arbitration, according to a decision released Jan. 5.

Bonvicin lost his at-will position after he was charged with money laundering, but the charges were dismissed by a federal judge.

The matter hinges on whether Bonvicin was an employee protected by a Collective Bargaining Agreement as a police officer, or became strictly an at-will hire when he took the job of chief marshal of the Municipal Court.

He has been fighting to get his job back. Arbitrator Joe Gentile in a decision dated Wednesday wrote that Bonvicin is “entitled to the benefits” of his work agreement.
