Bill Clinton, Gary Johnson to speak in Las Vegas

Former President Bill Clinton, acting as a surrogate for wife and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, will address thousands of Asian-American and Pacific Islander voters at a forum Friday in Las Vegas.

Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson also will speak at the gathering at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

Billed as the 2016 Presidential Election Forum, the event is being mounted by the Asian American Journalists Association and the Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote.

Organizers say they are in the final stages of discussions with Republican nominee Donald Trump’s camp.

The forum will mark the first time major presidential campaigns speak directly to the Asian and Pacific Islander community at the same event. Politico estimated more than 3,000 Asian-American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander journalists, community leaders, and other professionals will attend.

Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus also plan to talk about the importance of voting.

Bill Clinton visited Las Vegas on Jan. 21, speaking at Advanced Technologies Academy, and Feb. 5, speaking at the United Brotherhood of Carpenters International Training Center, stumping for Hillary Clinton.

Johnson was in Las Vegas on July 15, participating in the Freedom Fest conference at Planet Hollywood Resort on the Strip.
