BULLY BRAINS: They like inflicting pain

Apparently, some college researchers led very protected lives as school children.

National news outlets have picked up on a University of Chicago study published in Biological Psychology – I know, my subscription lapsed, too – that says bullies like inflicting pain on others. (See National Geographic story, Image courtesy Jean Decety, University of Chicago )

The study seems to confirm what those of us who had to scuffle to keep our lunch money learned in third grade: Those big sadistic jerks get their jollies shoving around weaker kids.

That is, until the victim smacks the bully right in the nose. It’s an action I fully endorse and don’t need a University of Chicago study to confirm.

It’s something I’ve experienced from the schoolyard to the Boulevard.
