Dead Greg Giraldo — another prescription overdose?
Comedian Greg Giraldo died in a hospital today, reportedly as the result of an accidental overdose of prescription meds four days ago.
The recovering alcoholic, who was 44, was working Vegas just a month ago, opening for Tom Papa at the Orleans Aug. 27-28.
Before those shows, I told Papa that his New York opener, a roast pro and judge on "Last Comic Standing," seemed crazed.
“He’s great," said Papa, host of "The Marriage Ref." "He’s one of those guys where he makes you really laugh, and then at the end of you show, you go, ‘I hope he’s OK.’ …
"When I came up to do my very first set in New York, Greg Giraldo was there. I was a sweaty nervous mess, and he was a sweaty nervous mess."
According to reports, Giraldo’s overdose was not a suicide attempt. Is this just another dumbass taking too many pills? Is that me being drug judge-y again? If it is, Giraldo can take it up with me personally. Oh right, he can’t.
