Dining Pick of the Week: Dom DeMarco’s Pizzeria
PICK OF THE WEEK:
DOM DEMARCO’S PIZZERIA
9785 W. Charleston Blvd., 702-570-7000
Once the word got out that Dom DeMarco delivered his award-winning pizza to President Barack Obama during one of his campaigns stops here last year, everyone wanted to try the New York cheese pizza made with hand-crushed San Marzano tomato sauce, Grana Padano cheese, fresh basil and extra-virgin olive oil. DeMarco, who comes from a family of master pizziaolos, makes two kinds of pies: round New York thin crust and square thick-crust Sicilian cooked in a cast-iron pan. Specialty pies include Big Apple (pepperoni, Italian sausage, meatball, ham), artichoke, white truffle and Bella Napoli with San Marzano tomatoes, spinach and chopped garlic. Pasta favorites are angel hair pomodoro, baked ziti, linguine and clams, and Brooklyn chicken with red peppers and provolone in tomato sauce. Popular salads are Mediterranean, spinach and East Coast with shrimp, bacon, green beans, cherry tomatoes, red onion and red wine vinaigrette. Several appetizers are scampi, Gram’s Secret Family Meatballs, pepperoni calzone and Dom’s Fries with truffle salt and garlic aioli. Happy hour is Monday through Thursday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Pizzas begin at $12. Dom DeMarco’s is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. — Jack Bulavsky
