Dining pick of the week: Fair View Chinese Cuisine

PICK OF THE WEEK:

FAIR VIEW CHINESE CUISINE

1930 N. Decatur Blvd. at Lake Mead Boulevard, 647-3288

The great thing about so many of these strip mall restaurants is that they are really good. Fair View is an example of really good Cantonese and Szechwan food in a small, unassuming setting. The Szechwan beef, pork, chicken or shrimp are spicy entrees that will demand a return visit. Other popular entrees are Kung Pao chicken, orange beef, strawberry chicken, almond or cashew chicken, sizzling beef platter, shrimp with pea pods, scallops with garlic sauce, Mongolian beef, pork chop with Peking sauce, curry beef with tomato chow mein, sweet and sour spare ribs and Peking duck (half or whole). There is egg foo yong, chow mein and lo mein, fried rice entrees, chop suey and vegetable dishes such as vegetarian delight and sautéed Chinese bok choy hearts. Several soups include egg flower, hot and sour, chicken noodle, sizzling rice and vegetable seafood. Popular appetizers are teriyaki beef sticks, egg roll, pot stickers and the always popular flaming pu pu platter. Lunch specials ($4.50 to $6.50) come with egg flower soup and steamed rice and are available from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Entrees start at $6. Fair View Chinese Cuisine is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday.
