Dining Pick of the Week: Hedary’s Mediterranean Restaurant

Hedary’s Mediterranean Restaurant
7365 W. Sahara Ave. at South Tenaya Way, 702-873-9041
Mediterranean food remains popular because it tastes good and is good for you. Its emphasis is on fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans, nuts, legumes, olive oil, fish and seafood — everything else is in moderation. Popular salads are Greek, spinach, Mt. Charleston (tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, mint, garlic, oregano, olive oil) and khyar bi laban, which is sliced cucumbers with yogurt, garlic and mint. Among the entrees are shish kabob (chicken, beef, shrimp, lamb, vegetarian), shrimp scampi, falafel plate, hummus ma lahm (hummus topped with a choice of meat), vegetarian stuffed grape leaves, roasted leg of lamb and sujuk (spicy beef sausage with lemon sauce). Several sandwiches are gyro, roasted chicken in pita, falafel in Lebanese bread and shawarma (beef, lamb, chicken). Ftayir is pizza with spinach, Monterey Jack, mushrooms, Bulgarian feta and onions. Several appetizers are lentil soup, magdoos (baby eggplant stuffed with walnuts, garlic), loubieh (green beans with onion, garlic, tomatoes) and halloumi cheese, fried Lebanese cheese with tomatoes, cucumbers and olives. Two popular desserts are pistachio ice cream and baklava. Lunch entrees start at $9.95. Hedary’s is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
